‘KAPILA’ Program Launched for IP Literacy and Awareness in India

The Union Education Minister Shri Ramesh Pokhriyal has virtually launched the KAPILA (Kalam Program for Intellectual Property Literacy and Awareness) Program on 15th of October, 2020 to foster awareness about patents in the country. This program was launched on the 89th birth anniversary of the former president and scientist Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam who was one of the pioneer scientists and researchers of India.

The Government has decided to celebrate the week from 15 to 23 October as ‘Intellectual Property Literacy Week’. Through this initiative, the Government aims to create awareness about the importance of patenting and the patenting process among students at higher educational institutions. This Program looks forward to create a self-reliant India by promoting patent among student innovators through educational programs. This initiative seeks to target research students and scientists of India to patent their inventions/innovations that would in turn stimulate the economy.
